Ronny Rockel.mp4 2011 Arnold classic | Bodybuilding ...

Ronny Rockel was born and raised in Germany. Like many other professional bodybuilders from Europe such as Milos Sarcev and Pavol Jablonicky, Rockel grew up under communist rule. Because of this Rockel was not aware of bodybuilding and other things of the outside world. This soon changed in 1989 when the Berlin Wall was taken down. At seventeen years of age, 143 pounds decided that he wanted a body like Arnold Schwarzenegger?s after seeing the film Conan the Barbarian, but at the time commercial gyms in his hometown of Chemnitz, East Germany, were non existent. Instead of abandoning his interest in bodybuilding, he created his own weight set. Following the demise of communism, entrepreneurial activities in the East of Germany spawned and with that the first gym opened in Ronny?s hometown. He soon joined and began absorbing information about diet and weight training from other members and fitness magazines. At his first competition, the Hessian Championships, he placed last in his class. But he did not become discouraged, he came back a year later and won the 1995 NABBA German Nationals and placed third at the NABBA Mr. Universe. From then Rockel decided that he had the potential to become a professional bodybuilder. It was not until 2002 that Ronny Rockel achieved professional status by winning the International German Championships. After this victory he won a contract with a nutritional company and relocated with his girlfriend to Venice, California for some time while competing.

Winter Conditions Threaten Lives of Syrian Refugees in Iraq

International disaster relief organization, ShelterBox, is delivering emergency shelter and supplies to Syrian families who are living in the Domiz refugee camp in northern Iraq as a result of Syria?s growing violence, political conflict and economic hardship.

Sarasota (PRWEB) October 24, 2012

International disaster relief organization, ShelterBox, is delivering emergency shelter and supplies to Syrian families who are living in the Domiz refugee camp in northern Iraq as a result of Syria?s growing violence, political conflict and economic hardship.

ShelterBox, which responds to disasters such as earthquake, volcano, flood, hurricane, cyclone, tsunami or conflict, has deployed a highly trained ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) to deliver boxes of aid that will help families rebuild their lives.

?This is an international crisis and it is affecting the entire Middle East and the broader region,? Kurdish Foreign Minister, Falah Mustafa, said. ?There are already many shortages but these will become more critical as winter sets in.?

Approximately 15,000 people are living at the camp, with an average of 200 new people arriving each day. The Kurdistan region of Iraq continues to welcome Syrian Kurdish refugees, but concerns are growing over the threat of winter weather to these refugee camps.

Because temperatures in this region often reach or drop below freezing from November through March, boxes sent to the Syrian refugees have been tailored to sustain the approaching winter weather conditions.

?As winter is approaching, there is a real need at the camp for winterized tents and ShelterBox provides a special thermal layer that goes between the inner and outer tents, which keeps warmth in,? said Becs Novell, an SRT member deployed to the area.

ShelterBox has sent essential disaster relief tents with thermal liners and sets of hats, gloves and scarves for adults and children in addition to the water filtration kit, blankets and groundsheets, and solar lamp in each box.

As part of its Clinton Global Initiative commitment, ShelterBox is also responding to extensive flooding and ongoing conflict in the Sahel region of West Africa, and continues to monitor the need of families affected by an earthquake in Iran, flooding in Nigeria and Senegal, and conflict in Jordan.

Since 2000, ShelterBox has provided shelter, warmth and dignity following more than 180 disasters in over 80 countries. ShelterBox?s American affiliate, ShelterBox USA is headquartered in Sarasota, Florida. Individual tax-deductible donations to ShelterBox USA can be made at http://www.shelterboxusa.org, 941-907-6036 or via text message by sending SHELTER to 20222 for a one-time $10 donation.

China becomes worlds largest FDI recipient

Shanghai News.Net Wednesday 24th October, 2012

It's mainly due to a 39.2 percent fall in FDI flows to the US, compared to a three percent decline in China, said Zhan Xiaoning, director of UNCTAD Division on Investment and Enterprise, reported Xinhua.

However, early indications show that FDI flows to the US might be stronger in the second half of 2012, he said.

Zhan said China had claimed the world's top destination for FDI in 2003.

In the first six months of the year, China attracted $59.1 billion in FDI while the US attracted $57.4 billion, according to the latest Global Investment Trends Monitor.

As a result of the performance of the US and a decline of $23 billion in flows to BRIC countries, the global FDI stood at $668 billion, dropping by eight percent over the same period of 2011, said the report.

UNCTAD projects the FDI flows will, at best, level-off in 2012 at slightly below $1.6 trillion, according to the report.

Zhan said the slow and bumpy recovery of the global economy, weak global demand and elevated risks related to regulatory policy changes continue to reinforce the wait-and-see attitude of many transnational companies toward investment abroad.

Should You Use Skype, FaceTime, or Google+ Hangouts?

Nothing can take the place of face-to-face conversation, but the combination of high-speed Internet, webcams, and smartphones makes modern video chatting a close substitute. The technology has come a long way since it popped up as a business tool in the 1990s and evolved into consumer software in the past decade. Nearly every modern smartphone and laptop comes ready for video chatting, but that ubiquity can be tricky to navigate because features differ across software, and applications aren't necessarily compatible with each other and with all hardware. When used to its full potential, though, videoconferencing is a cheap and effective way to see and hear friends who live far away, join in with the family if you can't make it home for the holidays, or virtually kiss your kids goodnight when you're away on a business trip.

Net Full of Options

Given the amount of money AT&T made for so long on long-distance calling, it's surprising how many modern companies are lining up to offer video calls to anywhere in the world for free; by sending calls over the Internet, these services circumvent phone companies altogether. Yet here we are, with dozens of ways to send our voices and faces over the Web. In fact, it's the very volume of incompatible options that makes the process far more confusing than it needs to be. The videoconferencing service you end up using will depend on the device you connect with and the devices owned by those whom you wish to contact. If you both have the same kind of smartphone, a built-in app might be all you need. But if one of you is on a computer and the other is on a video-game console, you'll probably need to find something a bit more robust.

Skype

You know a technology has caught on when it becomes a verb. Skype is the de facto way to connect when you're unsure of the equipment of the people to whom you're connecting. The powerful videoconferencing application runs on just about anything with an Internet connection, including iOS and Android devices, Macs and PCs, and even some televisions. That versatility, plus integration with Facebook and Outlook (Microsoft acquired Skype in 2011), means a growing base of users and ways to access the service. To prevent platforms from coming between friends and family, Skype allows calls between various kinds of devices. A computer can connect to a smartphone, another computer, or a landline?though only calls made entirely over the Internet are free, and for more than two people to video-chat, at least one person needs a $4.99-per-month Skype Premium subscription, which allows up to 25 participants at once.

Skype's multiplatform compatibility certainly lowers the barrier to participation, but the service sometimes suffers from shoddy video quality, especially when relying on cellular connections rather than more stable broadband ones. Smartphone-to-smartphone Skype calls are passable, but the images often turn pixelated and blurry, and calls that link Skype accounts to Facebook chat users frequently lag. According to Jim Forbes, a management consultant for the technology consulting firm Ibex Group, poor video quality on Facebook likely comes from the company's rush to try to keep up with Google. So to get the most from the service, stick to computer-to-computer calls using Skype's desktop software, and make sure you have a reliable, high-bandwidth Internet connection.

Google+ Hangouts

Google offers video chatting on computers and mobile devices with front-facing cameras via Google+ Hangouts, a feature that, like Skype on Facebook, is videoconferencing via social network. Hangouts requires a Google+ account and, to work directly in a computer browser, a video plug-in. The Google+ mobile app can also bridge the technological divide by letting Android and iPhone users digitally hang out. The video quality is what you would expect from Google: solid and clean, with potential for goofy fun, such as wearing virtual pirate hats. And unlike Skype, Google+ Hangouts is completely free and allows up to 10 participants in a call.

Apple FaceTime

Apple restricts its two video-chat services to Apple devices only. The company's computers come with Messages, built for connecting to as many as three other computers, and FaceTime, which can connect to one other Mac or iOS device. Apple designed FaceTime for the iPhone, and that's where it works best (it's preinstalled on any iDevice with a front-facing camera). To make a call, just open the desired contact and tap the FaceTime button.

While early versions of FaceTime required a Wi-Fi connection, iOS recently caught up with Android and now allows FaceTime over 3G too (though sound and video quality, which are strong over Wi-Fi, may suffer because of already overburdened networks). The convenience of the service makes it a good choice for an Apple-friendly family, but if there's already a PC?Mac rift in your clan, FaceTime won't help.

For video chatting without a big-company name, other options abound. Netconference provides video chatting and cloud-based storage for easy document sharing, and ooVoo and Tango are free services that can work over 3G on both Android and iOS devices. But as with all 3G services?except on AT&T's Mobile Share plans, which provide FaceTime calls for free?they can quickly eat into cellular data plans; a 20-minute phone call uses more than 60 MB.

Big-Screen Video Chat

You don't have to squint at a smartphone or squeeze the whole family around a laptop to video-chat. New Skype-ready HDTVs from Panasonic, LG, Samsung, and other companies connect via USB to external video cameras such as the FreeTalk Conference HD ($130), which comes in models made for Sharp, Toshiba, Panasonic, and Elite TVs.

You can also use the TV you already have by connecting it to your computer with an S-video, a VGA, or an HDMI cable (you'll still need to look at your computer's camera). If you have a cumbersome desktop computer, you may be better off connecting a Skype-friendly Blu-ray player, such as the Sony 3D Blu-ray Disc Player ($249), to a TV and a USB webcam. Or you can opt for an all-in-one device, such as Logitech TV Cam HD, a $200 set-top device that runs Skype software and works on nearly any HDMI-equipped TV.

Video-game systems are another option. When connected to Microsoft's Kinect camera or Xbox Live Vision camera (and with a $60-per-year Xbox Live Gold membership), the Xbox allows chat between two consoles or between a console and a computer via Windows Live Messenger. Nintendo's recently released Wii U GamePad also offers video chatting.

Though there are lots of ways to connect digitally, computer-to-computer connections remain the dominant method for two reasons: simplicity and compatibility. The move toward smarter TVs may change that, but it hasn't yet. So for a successful digital family gathering over the holidays, stick with the well-established tech and pull a laptop up to the table.

The new CBC Saunders Ralston Dantzler Realty Web site was designed to achieve three important goals. First, it needed to reflect CBC Saunders Ralston Dantzler Realty?s position as the premier commercial real estate firm in Polk County, and also appeal to clients locally, nationally, and globally. Leverage Digital Media accomplished this by designing a Web site that consisted of both a corporate, yet modern design, combined with high quality imagery of Polk County to emphasize the firm?s expertise in the Polk County market. The result was a design that reflects CBC Saunders Ralston Dantzler Realty?s high level of professionalism, excellent reputation in the Florida commercial real estate industry, and specialization in the Polk County commercial real estate market.

?We were pleased to work with Leverage Digital Media on this Web site, both for their expertise and for their good customer service. Jay Taylor and his staff are experts in what they do and were very responsive with creative solutions to our needs. The Web site meets and exceeds our expectations and is an excellent, user-friendly tool for our clients and the potential clients that visit the site,? said CBC Saunders Ralston Dantzler Realty founding and managing partner, Dean Saunders, ALC, CCIM.

It was also very important for the new Web site to serve as a tool and resource that both buyers and sellers of commercial real estate could utilize. As a result, Leverage Digital Media developed a custom property search tool that allows buyers to search for commercial properties throughout Florida utilizing up to eight different search parameters to refine their results, such as proximity to address, square footage, and property type. Each property listing on SRDCommercial.com provides users with a photo gallery of the property, a complete property description, an interactive map that provides users with directions to the property, and much more. For sellers, the new Web site and property search tool provides an excellent avenue for promoting their property to qualified, prospective buyers.

Last, CBC Saunders Ralston Dantzler Realty wanted the capability to manage the new Web site in-house, so Leverage Digital Media built the site on a WordPress content management system (CMS) platform, giving them virtually full management capabilities. The custom CMS enables CBC Saunders Ralston Dantzler Realty to manage all of the site?s content, photos, property listings, and more with just a few clicks.

Baby Shower Crafternoons - Miss Thrifty

I want to show you a couple of baby shower ideas this week.

Last year when I was pregnant with Thrifty Baby, I didn?t have a baby shower. They aren?t really my bag; in fact, the baby shower is one of the American imports I like least. We had a baby cake reveal party for close family instead: no presents, but a lot of fun.

If only I had met Emily sooner!

Emily and her business partner Sam are a craft powerhouse called?Love Me Sew, with?an online shop selling beautiful fabrics. Love Me Sew also holds crafternoons and craft workshops in and around Leeds ? and recently, baby shower crafternoons have been taking off.

I would have loved a baby shower crafternoon. It?s very simple: you get together with your friends and family one afternoon and, with the help of the Love Me Sew ladies, create a quilt for the new baby.

Everyone stitches a square, with all levels of experience catered to. People come up with their own designs beforehand, and these are sketched out by Love Me Sew in advance. The fabric, sewing machines and all the crafty bits and pieces are provided on the day.

I understand that tea and scones are obligatory also. This crafternoon was a surprise for the mum-to-be. She ended up stitching the tree (above): with its felt trunk and different-coloured leaves, it symbolised the start of her own family tree.

Afterwards, all the squares are taken away and stitched together into a beautiful quilt like this one.

The names of the quilters are also featured, on a white square sewn onto the back of the quilt. After the baby is born, his or her name, weight and date of birth are also embroidered there.

Here is the very cute baby on her finished quilt. What a lovely gift!

Love Me Sew?s baby shower crafternoons start from ?35 per person, for a minimum of six people, with materials included. It?s probably more than you would spend on a baby shower gift, but what a treat to be part of something so special and so lasting. Visit the Love Me Sew website for further information.

Thanks to Emily for permission to use these pictures. If you are as taken with baby shower crafternoons as I am, but live nowhere near Leeds, perhaps you could enlist the help of your craftiest friend or relative, and plan something similar?

Accounting News Roundup: Romney's "Big Idea"; Why Big 4 Audits ...

Romney's Tax Deduction Cap [WSJ]
[D]etails aside, the tax cap is a big idea, and potentially a very good one. The proposal makes economic sense to the extent that it helps to pay for lower marginal tax rates. Lower rates with fewer deductions improve the incentive for investing and taking risks based on the best return on capital rather than favoring one kind of investment (say, housing) over another. This would help economic growth. The idea may be even better politically. The historic challenge for tax reformers is defeating the most powerful lobbies in Washington that exist to preserve their special tax privileges. Among the biggest is the housing lobby that exists to preserve the mortgage-interest deduction?the Realtors, home builders, mortgage brokers and the whole Fannie Mae gang.?But don't forget the life insurance lobby (which benefits from the tax exclusion on the equity buildup in policies), the tax-free municipal bond interest lobby, the charitable deduction lobby and more. Each one will fight to the death to preserve its carve-out, which means that reformers have to engage in political trench warfare to succeed.?This is one reason President Obama wants Mr. Romney to be more specific: The minute he proposed to limit the mortgage-interest deduction, the housing lobby would do the Obama campaign's bidding by running ads against Mr. Romney's plan. Mr. Romney is right not to fall for this sucker play.

Senior House Democrat revives discussion of payroll tax cut extension [The Hill]
In an interview taped for C-SPAN?s ?Newsmakers? program, Rep. Want the shortest path to the good life? Try cynicism

ScienceDaily (Oct. 22, 2012) ? Are cynics and happiness mutually exclusive? For modern cynics, perhaps. But for the ancient Cynics, not necessarily.

Research by the University of Cincinnati's Susan Prince shows that despite the historical perception of the ancient Cynics as harsh, street-corner prophets relentlessly condemning all passersby and decrying society's lack of virtue, these Greek philosophers, indirectly descended from Socratic teaching, weren't all doom and gloom. They actually might have espoused a shortcut to happiness.

"We don't have good scholarship on the Cynics. They're seen as misanthropes and as sloppy and dirty people who want to cut down the elite," says Prince, UC assistant professor of classics, adding, "But there's a positive strand that needs to be recovered, and I'm really going to punch that hard with my research."

Prince was invited to present her new research paper, "Antisthenes and the Short Route to Happiness," during the 13th annual Unisa Classics Colloquium hosted by the University of South Africa's Department of Classics and World Languages from Oct. 25-27 in Pretoria. More than a dozen presentations from international scholars will address the conference theme of "Ancient Routes to Happiness."

Much of Prince's work focuses on the individual believed to be the primary influence on the Cynic movement, Antisthenes.

Antisthenes was a pupil of Socrates and occasional rival of Plato. In fact, while history occasionally paints Plato as a philosopher of unequaled wisdom, UC's Prince says that through study of his texts, it's more plausible that he developed his ideas through tight intellectual debates with his contemporaries, and Antisthenes was among them.

Ancient Cynics' Recipe for Happiness: Avoid an Emphasis On Material Goods

Plato and Antisthenes shared many beliefs in common with all philosophers -- rejection of wealth and luxury, and embracing the pursuit of wisdom and virtue. But Antisthenes' methods set him apart from Plato. Whereas Plato founded his Academy for philosophical teaching and lengthy study, Antisthenes advocated a short but rigorous path toward virtue and happiness.

Antisthenes' way was short in that he endorsed an abbreviated curriculum when compared to those of other schools of philosophy, which contended that the quick route was a road to nowhere. Antisthenes' teachings skipped over the technical aspects of logic in order to concentrate on ethical literature, such as reading Homer.

And Antisthenes' way was rigorous in that it required a drastic attitude change. To follow the path of the Cynic was to abandon many societal conventions and to live in accord with nature -- no more fancy clothes, no more exquisite feasts and even no more roof over your head.

Ancient Cynics' Lack of Emphasis On Material Goods Led to More Leisure Time

Through this shortcut, Prince says Cynics were able to gain leisure time which could be put toward living the good life or what Antisthenes called "seeing the things worth seeing and hearing the things worth hearing." And that's how an ancient Cynic could exist in ethical bliss until the end of his days.

"You get to your happiness quickly and then you practice your happiness for the rest of your life," Prince says.

In a modern context, there's some irony in the notion of a cynic devoted to the pursuit of happiness, and Prince hopes her research can clear the air on Antisthenes, et al. In addition to her paper for the Unisa conference, she has a 600-page manuscript on Antisthenes scheduled to be published through the University of Michigan Press in 2013 or 2014. She wants to show that the negative connotation associated with "cynic" might be historically inaccurate and to provide a little redemption for centuries of misjudgment.

"I'm resisting the modern sense of 'cynic,'" Prince says. "That just hits the mission on the head: To recover the ancient Cynics and show that you can't just project straight backward. There's a whole history there that has led us to our modern sense of the term 'cynic,' and that comes from the negative tradition."

China's new leaders face tough economic choices

BEIJING (AP) ? China's economic model that delivered three decades of double-digit growth is running out of steam and the country's next leaders face tough choices to keep incomes rising. But they don't seem to have ambitious solutions. Even if they do, they will need to tackle entrenched interests with backing high in the Communist Party.

The cost of inaction could be high. The World Bank says without change, annual growth could sink to 5 percent by 2015 ? dangerously low by Chinese standards. Some private sector analysts give even gloomier warnings.

The government's own advisers say it needs to promote service industries and consumer spending, shifting away from reliance on exports and investment. That will require opening more industries to entrepreneurs and forcing cosseted state companies to compete. State banks would have to lend more to private business that is starved for credit.

The ruling party's latest five-year development plan promises reforms in broad terms. Premier Wen Jiabao apologized at a news conference in March for not moving fast enough and vowed quicker action. But many changes could face opposition from China's most influential factions ? state companies, their allies in the party, bureaucrats and local leaders.

"If the challenge is, can they do radical reform all at once, we know that won't happen because these leaders aren't powerful enough," said Scott Kennedy, director of Indiana University's Research Center for Chinese Politics & Business in Beijing. "They are facing interests which wouldn't possibly allow that to occur."

Also at issue is how much Communist Party leaders are willing to cut back state industry that provides jobs and money to underpin the party's monopoly on power.

Li Keqiang is the man in line to lead reforms as the next premier, China's top economic official. Now a vice premier, Li is seen as a political insider with an easygoing style, not a hard-driving reformer. Along with the rest of the party's Standing Committee, the ruling inner circle due to be installed in November, Li will govern by consensus, which could blunt their force.

"They are under pressure to change the economy, but they will not demolish party control," said Mao Yushi, an 83-year-old economist who is one of China's most prominent reform advocates. He co-founded the Unirule Institute of Economics, an independent think tank in Beijing.

Li showed his political skills but little zeal for reform as governor and later party secretary of populous Henan province in 1998-2004.

His time there coincided with several fatal fires ? including a Christmas Day blaze at a nightclub in 2000 that killed 309 people ? and efforts by local officials to suppress information about the spread of AIDS by a blood-buying industry. Other officials were punished for the fires but Li emerged unscathed and rose to national office.

"Li was known for not acting very aggressively in Henan, to put it charitably," said Dali Yang, a University of Chicago political scientist.

The man in line to become Communist Party leader and China's president, Xi Jinping, has a similar reputation for successful inaction.

In the 1990s, he served as party secretary of Zhejiang province, a thriving center for private business south of Shanghai, and won praise from observers including former U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, who dealt with him as an investment banker. They lauded him not for spearheading change but for not tampering with Zhejiang's free-market success.

The next leadership will inherit one of the world's strongest economies but one in which advocates say reform is stalled.

Many observers trace the past decade of double-digit growth to changes forced through by former Premier Zhu Rongji, who overcame resistance from companies and party factions to slash the size of state industry in the late 1990s. He led Beijing into the free-trading World Trade Organization, driving a jump in trade growth that propelled China past Germany in 2009 as the world's biggest exporter.

After Zhu retired in 2002, leaders reaped the financial benefits but focused on other areas: reforms of the legal system and trying to close a yawning gap between rich and poor with more spending on health and other social services.

They built up state-owned "national champions" in industries from oil and telecoms to steel and banking with monopolies, low-cost bank loans and other favors. Beijing's huge stimulus after the 2008 global crisis flowed through state companies, increasing their dominance while entrepreneurs who generate China's new jobs and wealth struggled.

The government defends the privileges given to its oil, telecoms and other major companies as necessary for building up Chinese global competitors. But entrepreneurs complain those companies abuse their control over essential resources such as energy, phone service and bank loans to gouge customers and pay their managers inflated salaries while stifling job-creating private businesses.

In a report last year, Mao's institute calculated the biggest state companies consumed trillions of yuan (hundreds of billions of dollars) in subsidies over the previous decade. It said they are so inefficient that their return on equity ? a broad measure of profitability ? was an average loss of 6 percent a year.

Wen Jia, a manager for the privately owned Traveling Bestone travel agency in the western province of Chengdu, said her company struggles to compete in an industry that is hemmed in by state companies.

"The attractions belong to the state. So do some of the good hotels. The insurance, airlines and train tickets are the same," said Wen. "State-owned travel agencies get prices 10 percent lower than we do on attractions and state-owned hotels."

The abrupt economic slowdown that began last year has heightened frustration among entrepreneurs and the public. Growth fell to 7.4 percent in the latest quarter, its lowest level since early 2009 and barely half of 2007's explosive 14.2 percent.

"''The criticism is about how the distortions are not just benefiting those vested interests but also that they reduce the efficiency of the economy," said Yang. "The pressures in the economy paradoxically provide them with more of a mandate for doing things because they have to do things."

The World Bank and a Cabinet think tank, the Development Research Center, offered an ambitious roadmap for reform with a report in March that called for scaling back state industry and opening markets to private and foreign competitors. It warned that without change, China might be trapped at its current middle-income levels.

"The difference that reforms can make is the difference between a 6 to 7 percent growth pace and no growth at all," said Societe General economist Wei Yao in a report.

Supporters of reform were encouraged by the fact that both current Premier Wen Jiabao and Li, his likely successor, supported the research that went into the World Bank report. They were disappointed when Li failed to endorse its recommendations, though he might have remained silent to avoid stirring up opposition ahead of the leadership transition.

Changes to state industry will be politically sensitive. Companies that oppose giving up monopolies and other favors can argue that they provide tax revenue, provide money to develop poor ethnic minority areas and pay for ambitious but unprofitable initiatives such as developing homegrown mobile phone technology.

Bosses of the biggest companies are appointed by the party and are politically influential. Some will take part in the November party congress to install the next leadership. Their companies also create a cadre of well-paid executives and other professionals who form a base of support for continued one-party rule.

"State-owned enterprise bosses are very powerful. They outrank the people who are supposed to regulate them," said James McGregor, an American businessman in Beijing and author of the new book "No Ancient Wisdom, No Followers: The Challenges of Chinese Authoritarian Capitalism."

"That's going to be a very hard thing to break. But the countervailing pressure is that growth can't keep going unless they loosen up," McGregor said. "The party's only credibility is making life better, and if that doesn't happen, how do you maintain stability?"

(AP) ? Ryan Vogelsong struck out six during a hitless start, and the San Francisco Giants took a 5-0 lead over the St. Louis Cardinals through three innings in Game 6 of the NL championship series Sunday night.

St. Louis leads the series 3-2.

Trying to force a decisive Game 7 at home, Marco Scutaro hit a two-out, two-run double off Chris Carpenter to highlight San Francisco's four-run second. Buster Posey's groundout in the first also scored Scutaro and gave the NL batting champion his first RBI of the series.

Vogelsong's dominating start came almost all on fastballs and commanding cutters to energize an orange towel-twirling crowd on a cool night at San Francisco's waterfront ballpark.

Fans serenaded the 35-yeard-old journeyman with chants of "Vog-ey! Vog-ey!" He struck out the side in the first ? allowing only a one-out walk to Matt Carpenter ? and mixed in a changeup to get Carlos Beltran swinging for the second out of the inning.

Matt Carpenter replaced Matt Holliday in St. Louis' lineup when the left fielder was scratched about 45 minutes before first pitch because of lower back tightness, the team said. Carpenter started at first base and batted second, Allen Craig shifted from first to left field and Beltran slid back a spot to third while playing right field.

With Vogelsong on the mound and San Francisco's offense off to a scintillating start, Holliday's absence might not have mattered much.

After Scutaro drew a one-out walk in the first, Sandoval doubled over the head of Jon Jay as the center fielder got turned around fighting the sun and shadows during the twilight start. Scutaro scored on Posey's groundout to third to give the Giants a 1-0 lead.

Brandon Belt tripled to right-center leading off the second. Gregor Blanco struck out swinging and Brandon Crawford was walked intentionally.

With Crawford trying to steal second on the pitch, Vogelsong chopped a ball that shortstop Pete Kozma couldn't handle. Scutaro doubled to left and Sandoval singled on the 10th pitch against Carpenter to put the Giants ahead 5-0.

The 10 unearned runs allowed by the Cardinals over the series is the most in NLCS history, according to STATS LLC. Two teams have allowed nine.

Not exactly the start St. Louis had in mind.

The only other time the Cardinals opened a 3-1 lead in the NLCS came in 1996, when they lost to the Atlanta Braves in seven games. San Francisco, which never faced an elimination game in winning the 2010 World Series title, is 4-0 when pushed to the brink this postseason. The Giants became the first team in major league history to come back from a 0-2 deficit and win the final three games on the road when they stunned the Cincinnati Reds in the division series.

St. Louis has won its last seven games when facing elimination dating back to 2006 but the defending champions were hoping to avoid another chance to extend the streak. After falling into a 3-1 hole before winning Game 5 to force the series back to San Francisco, the Giants liked their chances to do just that.

Vogelsong became the first Giants starter to last through six innings this postseason when he allowed four hits over seven innings in a 7-1 victory in Game 2. Carpenter had been even more reliable this time of year for the Cardinals, with his 10 postseason victories the most in franchise history.

Giants ace Matt Cain would take the mound for Game 7 in San Francisco on Tuesday night against Kyle Lohse.

Finding Ideas for Article Writing When You Are Out And About - Advice for Newbies

If you?re trying to generate ideas for article writing, it can be easy to think that this all has to be done by sitting and researching online. Although the internet is an enormous and wonderful resource for finding out information and stimulating new ideas, if you?re creating content on a regular basis it can also be useful to step away from your computer and in the course of your day take note of things around you that can stimulate ideas. Try and be flexible and allow your mind just to have fun and finding ideas for article writing will come from the most surprising places.

Other peoples conversations

I?m sure you?re thinking that you don?t make a habit of listening to other people?s conversations, but often it?s very difficult not to. People talking on their phones, in the street, on public transport. People holding conversations in doctor?s waiting rooms, dentists, hospital waiting rooms, hairdressers, in cafes and bars. You don?t need to listen to hear whole conversations, even small snippets can generate ideas. What are their fears, their worries, the problems they have and need solving?

Shop window displays

Look at what they are promoting and how they?re promoting it. What story are they telling? What need are they trying to fulfill? Your online business may be completely different, but that doesn?t mean there isn?t something that you can?t make a connection to and write about.

Flyers and posters

Sometimes it seems you can?t walk down a street without someone trying to press a flyer in your hand. As tempting as it may be to just put it in the nearest bin, take a quick look. Similarly instead of just walking on past advertising hoardings, see if there?s anything that stimulates your interest.

Public announcements

Yes even public announcements in train, bus, or coach stations or ones inside shops can be interesting. Quite often one hears poor examples of communication skills, customer service, time management, organisational skills or even funny announcements that can spark ideas and help you find ideas for article writing.

Hustle and bustle of life

Just in the course of a normal day you will be interacting with lots of different people. Some of these interactions whether they be positive or negative can be used to generate further ideas. Sometimes it may be conversations, it may be the manner of someone, it may be the way their dressed, it may be something that they?re doing. And of course ? although I?ve said about the hustle and bustle of life they are just as many times to gain ideas at quieter times such as a walk in the country, a jog along the beach...

Summary

When you?re out and about on an everyday basis you will come across many things which can help you in finding and generating ideas for article writing. The connections may not seem obvious, but be flexible. Oh and I never said earlier, but always have a way of jotting down any idea that comes into your head. There?s nothing worse than having a great idea and then not being able to remember it later.

Alleged 7-Eleven shoplifter stripped by employees

Oct 20, 2012 6:00am

A?man accused of stealing candy bars from a 7-Eleven store was thwarted by three store clerks who were captured on video grabbing him and stripping him down to his underwear.

?I got nothing man! Why you biting me?? David Golson, 29, screamed on the video, taken by a bystander on Wednesday in the Brooklyn, N.Y., store.

During the skirmish, some patrons can be heard laughing on the video, while others yelled, ?You are attacking him!?

A 7-Eleven spokesperson called the video ?disturbing? and said one employee had been fired, while two others were being retrained.

?7-Eleven, Inc. does not condone restraining any guest/customer or a suspect. As a matter of fact, this is an important precept of 7-Eleven?s safety and security training we give franchisees and provide for them to give their employees,? the company said in a statement to ABCNews.com.

Golson was arrested and faces charges of robbery and assault.

89% Robot & Frank

All Critics (80) | Top Critics (31) | Fresh (71) | Rotten (9)

"Robot & Frank" hits all the right notes - romantic, fantastic, tragic and sweet.

There's a warm and poignant interplay between the co-stars.

Langella ... is tremendous.

It may not seem like an even playing field pitting an actor as powerfully intense as Frank Langella opposite a robot, but that's the game plan behind the waywardly endearing, slightly futuristic fantasy Robot & Frank.

Much of Robot & Frank is (frankly) resistible, including the climactic narrative twist, but there is also a likeable oddness that transcends the sentimental contrivance.

An endearing movie about a human and his mechanical new buddy.

Deserves credit for bringing comic fantasy close to sensitive reality

If Miranda July tackled an episode of Tales of the Unexpected the results might be something close to what's on offer here.

Langella provides a formidable central presence, both stubborn and endearing, while Sarsgaard injects warmth and humanity into Robot.

An hysterically funny, breathlessly paced and moving meditation on old age and existence, topped by an award-worthy turn from Frank Langella. One of the year's best.

Jake Schreier and scriptwriter Christopher Ford go well beyond the initial fun of the robot conceit to craft a thoughtful film musing on both the ageing process and our relationship with technology.

A little gem of a movie about aging and obsolescence that is also a very modest sci-fi cautionary tale.

... a marvel of the highest order. Robot and Frank manages to seamlessly blend comedy, science fiction and drama into a film that is hilarious, truly original and utterly heartfelt

This blend of sentiment and genre fancy is not unlike something Ray Bradbury might have contrived for The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction.

Robot & Frank is an airy, engaging flight of fancy. It's also part caper film, part character study, and part allegory about aging. Robot & Frank shouldn't work, but it does.

..never hits the easy and obvious beats of a buddy comedy; there's no sentimental bonding between man and mecha man. Similarly, though it feints toward romance, the relationship ... resolves in an unexpectedly bittersweet way.

"Robot & Frank" is a study of a man who lives with his past mistakes but can't shake how truly alive they made him feel when he was making them, regardless of what they cost him.

Hodgepodge of moods built around an unlikely story of friendship between a man and his service robot, the film carries itself confidently, with occasional moments of significant emotion.

They get the robot right, with fluid movement (by dancer Rachael Ma) and canned warmth in its user-friendly voice (performed by Peter Sarsgaard).

What a weird, winning little movie is Robot & Frank.

The chief spectacle here -- and it's a good one -- is Langella in gruff, curdled mode, an underappreciated master actor slipping seamlessly into a bespoke role.

"Robot & Frank" is so endearing it's easy to forget it's science fiction.

The movie is sweet and agreeably unambitious, derailed only by an egregious third-act twist.
