Facebook?s updated iOS app allows US users to make free calls

Facebook has updated its Messenger app to allow users in the United States to make free voice calls over the Internet on their iPhones and iPads but it is unclear if it will be available in Australia.

The Skype-like app feature also allows users to send free texts and chat with a group.

The app feature was first rolled out in Canada early January and the United States this week, not long after Facebook announced Graph Search.

There is currently no news from Facebook whether this app feature will be rolled out to other countries.

However, in December Facebook rolled out a Messenger app for Android, which is available in Australia, to allow users to send free texts over the Internet once signed up using just their name and phone number.
