A new scholarship, offered by the University of Tasmania in partnership with Skills Tasmania, is aimed at providing more information into the benefits of the State's vocational education and training industry.
The Minister for Education and Skills, Nick McKim said that advertisements calling for submissions for the prestigious scholarship had been published in the State's three daily newspapers today.
"UTAS, in partnership with Skills Tasmania, is offering a research scholarship for full-time PhD or masters research into the benefits and outcomes of vocational education and training for learners, enterprises and the Tasmanian economy and society," Mr McKim said.
"UTAS and Skills Tasmania will provide a suite of resources including a laptop, secure data storage, quality skills training and conference attendance.
"The scholarship includes a tax-free living allowance of $23,728 per annum for three years (PhD) or two years (masters).
"The successful applicant will be someone with quantitative or qualitative research skills, the ability to explain complex issues in plain English and an understanding of how economics affect social and educational policies and practices.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for people with a passion or interest in vocational education and training to make a real difference to research into this important industry in our State."
Professor Sue Kilpatrick, Director of UTAS' Centre for University Pathways and Partnerships, welcomed the new scholarship.?"The research that will result from this postgraduate scholarship will be of great benefit to Tasmania- it is important we gain more understanding of the benefits of vocational education and training to our state," Professor Kilpatrick said.
"At the same time, this scholarship will provide support to a postgraduate student wishing to advance their own academic skills, giving them the means and guidance to undertake what is sure to be an interesting and rewarding research project."?Applications will close on Tuesday 18 September 2012.
