CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) ? The first officer to arrive at the apartment of a slain University of Virginia lacrosse player says he thought he was responding to an alcohol overdose but quickly discovered the woman had been bruised and bloodied.
Charlottesville Police Officer K.W. Blackwell testified Thursday in the murder trial of George Huguely V. He is accused in the May 2010 death of Yeardley Love. Huguely played on the school's men's lacrosse team.
During prosecution questioning, Blackwell said Love was not breathing when he found her and he attempted to revive her.
Huguely's attorneys have said he was very drunk the night Love died and incapable of plotting to kill her. They also have disputed evidence prosecutors say shows Love's head hit a wall several times and that she died of blunt-force trauma.
